Naughty Dogs successful survival-horror title, The Last of Us, was the second biggest selling title of 2013 as well as getting a remastered version for the PS4, has announced that it has plans for a feature length filmed and is in talks with a superb actress notable for her role as Arya Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones. One would imagine that Ellen Page would have gotten this role, considering the controversy that was stirred during the games release and whether or not Naughty Dog "ripped off," the actresses image. Regardless, this is great news and the film will be produced by Sam Raimi, creator of the previous Spider Man trilogy and the original Evil Dead as well as written by Naughty Dog creative director, Niel Druckman. Keep an eye for more news over the couse of Comic Con weekend!
I spoke quite often about the challenges Guardians of the Galaxy faces but at the same time, having the name "Marvel," attached to it would grant it a certain level of immediate success. In an ever growing multi-film franchise that's all sharing the same universe, Guardians is finally coming to fruition and I'm happy to say that the first handful of early reviews for this next super hero blockbuster are good, very good in fact. Not to mention that Marvel has already given the go ahead for a sequel with the return of writer and director James Gunn. We're only a week away from this films release and I have some very high hopes that this is going to be on the upper end of Marvel releases, which have only seemed to get better and better. Guardians of the Galaxy is in theaters August 1st, 2014.
Comic Con has given us our first look at the new Halo series that will be exclusive to Xbox and executive produced by legendary sci-fi director, Ridley Scott. The 5 episode series will be available to players with Xbox live as well as gamers who purchase the Halo: Masterchief collection and other windows devices. It was also revealed that the main character of Halo Nightfall, Jameson Locke, will be a playable character in the upcoming Halo 5 title. As for now, check out the brand new trailer of the series and get ready to see it when it begins streaming November, 11th, 2014. Naughty Dog's successful action-adventure title the Uncharted series, has finally announced a release date in a slot where we expected another big franchise to fall. Instead of the Amazing Spider Man 3 releasing June 10th, 2016, we'll instead be seeing Uncharted: Drakes fortunes based on the popular franchise. This isn't the only Spiderman related news as the spin off film, the Sinister Six, will fall in November 2016, moving The Amazing Spider Man 3 to 2018. While a lead hasn't been chosen yet the rumor has been circulating that Transformers 4 star Mark Whalberg might take on the wise cracking adventurer. I'm sure there's more to come to keep an eye and ear on this years comic con.
It feels like only a few weeks ago since the premiere of the 3rd season of the Legend of Korra, the continuation to the Nickleodeons award winning animated series, Avatar the Last Airbender, and it looks like it's fallen on some hard times. Reports have surfaced that the series remaining episodes scheduled to air on TeenNick will be pulled from television after this episode airing Friday at 8pm and will instead be streamed on their website. A shocking move considering how popular the series was but it looks like a loss of viewership is to blame here. Also sad considering that Book 3 is considerably better than Book 2 but maybe its poor story line is the reason people aren't watching like they use to? We'll be hearing more of this story as it develops at the Legend of Korra ComicCon panel.
Today begins 2014s San Diego Comic Con and ahead of all the awesome news coming out way, we get a look at the first poster for the upcoming (and much troubled) Ant Man film. As you can see, Ant Mans costume is a little different from what we're use to seeing in the comics as well as the Pyme family played by Michale Douglas and Paul Rudd seen off to the right hand side. This is, of course, pre production concept art so be ready to hear more about this 2015 title later today and over the weekend! This year saw the release of quite a few films and another film that you might have missed is the korean sci-fi action epic Snowpiercer, based on the French graphic novel, Le Transperceneige. While this movie received a little difficulty with it's release state-side due to some of its content, you can still find it in some theaters as well as online and this is going to easily be one of 2014's best releases and for a title with receiving the acclaim it has, it's one you should definitely see.
Hyrule Warriors is looking better and better each time we see it! Check out the brand new link footage using his power gloves and in a gameplay video and get ready to get your hands on the Wii U title this September! Hyrule Warriors While Scarlett Johanson saw the release of the massive hit, Captain America: Winter Soldier, a small and lesser known film was released on the same day (April 4th) in the US, one you should not miss. The psycho-sexual science fiction film, Under The Skin, stares a polarizing and daunting Johanson in a far less warm role than we're use to and it offers an incredible mix of sexy and down right terrifying. As to avoid ruining the twist of the film, Under The Skin plays more on the hunter v. prey relationship as a young woman searches across a town in Scotland looking for loners to lure them back to her place and when you find out what happens to them, it will turn your stomach. More importantly, this film is beautifully shot, rending scenes reminiscent of art house films decades before it. The absence of color, the lack of emotion, the impeding sense of danger brought on by the music playing behind each scene, all of these and more add to a world that you're immediately drawn in on and sit gripping at your neck as you actually fear what's going to happen next. For those of you who are fans of alterna-style horror flicks, this is a viewing experience that's both gratifying and haunting. Under The Skin is available now on Blue Ray and DVD. |
