The Raid 2: Berandal (Thug) the sequel to 2011's massively popular action title, The Raid: Redemption was released earlier this year and it seems that Gareth Evans is on a mission to reinvigorate the martial arts genre as we know it. If one word can describe both of these films, it would have to be brutal. While the first films plot is a little less dense than the second one, they consistently hand you over the top action sequences that only get better as the film move on. The films also manage to drop a lot of typical action movie tropes like a love plot line or a character solely seeking revenge. The raid follows a cops journey to to justice but it certainly comes at a hefty price. While the first film is a wild and action packed ride that I totally recommend checking out, the second one, which story line picks up directly after the first, offers some of the most intense, awesome and down right disgusting fight scenes that I've ever scene in a marital arts film. There's a scene with a baseball bat and another with a motorcycle that are going to sit with me for awhile. While the story lines hold up on their own, the action and cinematography is really this movies selling point and neither of them disappoint. I suggest checking out both of these films if a kick-butt martial arts film is your cup of tea. Check out the trailer for The Raid: 2 below!
